Silvestri Named NSCAA National Player of the Week

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State junior goalkeeper Briana Silvestri was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Player of the Week, according to an announcement by the NSCAA on Wednesday.
It's the latest honor for Silvestri, who on Tuesday was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week.
Silvestri, a native of Terra Linda, Calif., helped extend ASU's unbeaten streak to three after shutting out both Baylor and the seventh-ranked Texas Longhorns on the road. After holding Baylor and a Texas team, who came into to the match averaging 2.6 goals per game, scoreless, Silvestri now ranks fourth on ASUs all-time shutouts list with nine.
Since missing the first three games of the season because of injury, Silvestri has tallied 12 saves and only allowed one goal in four games. She has not allowed a goal in her last 360 minutes on the field. She is currently ranked seventh in the nation with a .237 goals against average.
Each week, a male and female player are selected by a committee from a nomination pool comprised of players of the week from each NCAA Division I soccer conference. The players will be announced each Wednesday afternoon from now until Nov. 10 through NSCAA.com, the official website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
They also will be recognized at halftime of the NSCAA College Game of the Week on Fox Soccer Channel, a schedule of 20 men's and women's intercollegiate matches. This week the women's schedule continues with No. 17 Penn State facing James Madison in at 8 p.m ET/5 p.m. PT.
The Sun Devils (3-2-2) begins a seven-game homestand on Friday when they host CSU Northridge at 7 p.m. ASU will then conclude the weekend on Sunday when it faces Michigan at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe.
