Women's Tennis Opens Up Fall Tournament Season Against the Best in the Nation

TEMPE, Ariz. - Women's Tennis Coach Sheila McInerney will kick-off her 25th season at the helm of the program in style this weekend as she leads her team to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the Georgia Tech Invitiational with some of the best teams in the country competing.

The Sun Devils will enter a field including the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets who finished ranked 6th and in the team quarterfinals in last year's NCAA Tournament as well as boasting junior Amanda McDowell, the reigning NCAA Individual Champion. Georgia joins the melee this weekend after reaching the round-of-16 at the 2008 NCAA Championships and finished the season ranked eighth. In addition, Princeton will be competing who claims the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation entering this year.

'This is a really great tournament for us to open with because we'll be playing against some of the best in the nation. That level of competition is great for our players to face early on in preparation for a successful season.' stated Head Coach Sheila McInerney.

The tournament is a three-day flighted tournament which begins Friday at 10:30 a.m. Saturday's action will start at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday's will begin at 9:00 a.m. to wrap up the weekend. All times are Eastern.
