No. 3 Cal Falls to No. 8 Creighton, 2-0

BERKELEY - Third-ranked California suffered its first loss of the season to No. 8 Creighton Sunday afternoon at Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears record now stands at 4-1-2, while the Blue Jays improved to 5-1.

Creighton's Tim Walters scored the first goal of the contest and had an assist on the second score. In the 16th minute, Walters took a shot that was partially blocked and just made it over the outstretched hand of Cal keeper Stefan Frei. The second goal was scored in the 47th minute when Walter fed a pass to Jeff Thayer who drove down the field and blasted a shot past Frei. Despite giving up the two scores, Frei made six saves.

The Bears outshot Creighton, 15-12, and had eight shots on goal. Sophomores Andrew Wiedeman and Demitrius Omphroy each recorded three shots and sophomore Hector Jimenez had two shots on goal.

Cal stays at home next week for the final non-conference match of the season. The Bears square off against San Francisco Friday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. at Edwards Stadium.
