No. 3 Cal Falls to No. 8 Creighton, 2-0
Sept. 21, 2008
BERKELEY - Third-ranked California suffered its first loss of the season to No. 8 Creighton Sunday afternoon at Edwards Stadium. The Golden Bears record now stands at 4-1-2, while the Blue Jays improved to 5-1.
Creighton's Tim Walters scored the first goal of the contest and had an assist on the second score. In the 16th minute, Walters took a shot that was partially blocked and just made it over the outstretched hand of Cal keeper Stefan Frei. The second goal was scored in the 47th minute when Walter fed a pass to Jeff Thayer who drove down the field and blasted a shot past Frei. Despite giving up the two scores, Frei made six saves.
Cal stays at home next week for the final non-conference match of the season. The Bears square off against San Francisco Friday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. at Edwards Stadium.
