Cox Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Sept. 23, 2008
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington senior midfielder Raphael Cox was named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 16-22, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Cox was instrumental in the Huskies' 3-2 overtime victory against No. 24 New Mexico to win the Husky Fever Classic on Sunday. The victory also gave head coach Dean Wurzberger his 200th win at Washington. The Tacoma, Wash., helped the Huskies come back from a two-goal deficit against the Lobos, scoring the equalizing goal in the 79th minute and the gamewinner in the 98th minute. It was the first multiple-goal effort for Cox who earned All-Pac-10 second-team acclaim last season.
The senior also fired off two shots in Washington's 1-0 win over Cal State Fullerton in the Husky Fever Classic opener, Friday. He is currently tied for third in the Pac-10 in goals with three and is tied for sixth in points with seven.
This is the first weekly honor for Cox and the 19th overall for Washington.
The Huskies (4-3-0) will wrap non-conference play this week when they host Gonzaga, Sunday, Sept. 28. Kick-off at Husky Soccer Field is set for 2:30 and will follow the UW women's match with Hawai'i that begins at noon.
