UCLA's DiMartino Named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Sept. 23, 2008
Walnut Creek, Calif. -
UCLA Senior Midfielder Christina DiMartino was named Pac-10 Player of the Week for Sept. 16-22, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
DiMartino, a native of Massapequa, NY, helped extend UCLA's nation-leading home unbeaten streak to 45 with her outstanding offensive output against both Miami and New Mexico last weekend.
In the Bruin's 3-0 victory over the Hurricanes Friday night, DiMartino scored two goals, including the game-winning goal and recorded four shots. DiMartino then came back Sunday against New Mexico and assisted on UCLA's second goal of the game, eventually giving the Bruins another 3-0 victory. With its success last weekend, UCLA notched a school-record seventh straight shutout, allowing only one goal in the season-opener against UC Santa Barbara the entire year.
DiMartino ranks third on the team in scoring this season with eight points off of three goals and two assists.
This is DiMartino's first Player of the Week honor and 21st all time for UCLA. UCLA and Stanford are tied for most Player of the Week honors in Pac-10 history.
