Describe your experience playing on the beach.
I have been playing beach volleyball since I was in sixth grade. I started going to a sand drills class twice a week with my older sister and have been playing ever since. I played in my first tournament in seventh grade and now spend my summers playing in as many tournaments as I can. I go to Santa Cruz as often as I can to play but usually am only able to make it down there in the spring and summer. I really enjoy the beach volleyball game because you are able to practice all of your skills rather than just play a specified position. It is really nice to be able to hit and pass serve receive on the beach since I am a setter indoors! I think that playing on the beach really helps your speed, endurance and vertical for the indoor game. I would love to continue playing on the beach once I am done at Stanford! I am going to try and play for as long as I can!
What has been the most interesting thing you've done so far at Stanford?
Last year, I went to an annual event at Moffett Field called 'Yuri's Night'. It takes place every year on April 12th to commemorate Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space. It takes place under one of the huge hangers at Moffett Field and is basically a technology expo with really cool art displays and music shows as well. I recommend going!
What is your favorite vacation spot?
I think the best vacation spot I have been to is Monterey, California. It is fun going to far away places, but for a short day trip, Monterey is the best. I used to go with my best friend in high school a lot and we would go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, walk around Carmel, and go to Pebble Beach. It can get a little cloudy down there, but nevertheless Monterey is a really fun little beach town. The aquarium is superlative! It never gets old!
Anything you're 'addicted to' or spend a lot of time doing?
Once activity I really enjoy doing when I am not playing volleyball is biking. I just got a bike about 6 months ago and I am in love with it! Stanford is a great place to go biking because there are so many bicyclists in the area and the city of Palo Alto is really 'biker-friendly.' I am also addicted to my pet gecko. Her name is Sargent Pepper and she is about a year old. She is a very good friend to me and very entertaining!
