USC Finishes Second At Mason Rudolph Championships
Sept. 28, 2008
Thanks to three rounds under par, Troy turned in the low combined team round of the day to finish second at the eighth annual Mason Rudolph Women's Championship on the South Course of the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., on Sunday (Sept. 27).
USC, ranked No. 1 by Golfworld, registered its second consecutive second-place finish to start the season, finishing at 8-under 856 (288-285-283), six strokes back of winner UCLA (850). Oklahoma State was third (863) while Vanderbilt was fourth (868), Arizona State was fifth (873) and Duke was sixth (882).
USC extended its streak of top 2 finishes to six. It also now has 12 consecutive top 5 finishes, 16 consecutive top 6 finishes and 22 consecutive top 10 finishes.
Junior Stefanie Endstrasser (71-70-69) and freshman Jennifer Song (71-68-71) tied for third at 6-under 210. For Endstrasser, it tied her lowest finish as a Trojan, matching her effort at the 2008 NCAA West Regional Championship. It was also Song's best at Troy, topping her ninth-place mark in her debut tournament earlier this month.
Sophomore Lizette Salas also clocked out with her second top 10 finish of the season, tying for 10th at 2-under 214 (71-73-70). She was third in USC's first event.
Endstrasser led USC on Sunday with a 3-under effort that included an eagle on the par-5, 465-yard 7th hole and four birdies over the final five holes. Song had three birdies on the day against two bogeys. Like Endstrasser, she birdied the 18th hole to finish tied for third.
Salas's final-round 2-under 70 was her best of the tournament. She birdied the 3rd, 10th and 18th holes against a bogey on 9.
Mozo's finish was her first outside the top 18 since her freshman season. USC's top golfer in 2008, she never quite found her `A' game this weekend, but did knock in three birdies over the final round.
