TUCSON, Ariz. - Junior Brittany Benvenuto fired a 3-under round of 69 to held #17-ranked Arizona to an 11th place finish at the 2008 Mason Rudolph Championships, Sunday afternoon at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
The Wildcats finished the three-round event with a total team score of 896 to come in at +32. Pac-10-rival UCLA won the event at 14-under par 850. The 'Cats trimmed 13 shots off their score from Saturday to tally a total of +5 (293) on Sunday, tying for the 4th-lowest team score of the day.
Benvenuto jumped nearly 30 places on the individual leaderboard with her round, one of four players to share the 2nd-lowest 18-hole total of the day. Her 54-hole total of 221 gave her a share of 23rd place overall with 7 other players. After shooting 43 on the front nine Saturday morning, she played her final 27 holes at -5.
Fellow sophomore Alejandra Llaneza was another Arizona player to improve off her round from Saturday. She was four strokes better on Sunday and finished at 224 (+8) to finish ina tie for 39th place.
Senior Amanda Wilson matached her Saturday total of 77 and was one shot behind Llaneza to tie for 45th place while Margarita Ramos shot her best round of the weekend at +2 (74) for a 54-hole total of +12 (228) to share 53rd position.
Rounding out the field for the Wildcats was freshman Nikki Koller. After carding the lowest round of the day for the team on Saturday, Koller finished her first collegiate event with a round of 77 (+5) and recorded a three-round total of 232 to finish 16-over par.
Sydnee Michaels of UCLA earned medalist honors by shooting 11-under 205 over the three days.
Arizona takes a week off before heading to Illinois to take part in the Northwestern Invitational, October 6-7, in Skokie, Ill.
