Wildcats crack Top-25
Sept. 29, 2008
For the first time in 2008, the Arizona volleyball team (11-2, 1-1) was voted into the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association Top-25 Poll, breaking in at No. 25 with a split over the weekend against the Washington schools.
The Wildcats received 89 point, after earning 43 points last week and being just outside the top 25.
“It’s nice to be back in the poll,” head coach Dave Rubio said. “The bottom line is we have to keep getting better and the poll will take care of its self.”
This is the first time since Sept. 11, 2006 that the Wildcats have been in the top-25, when they came in at No. 24.
With the Wildcats’ new ranking, seven Pac-10 teams are now in the poll, topped by USC at No. 4, UCLA at No. 5, Stanford at No. 6, California at No. 8, Washington at No.9 and Oregon at No. 11.
Arizona is coming off a weekend split in which it swept visiting Washington State and lost to Washington 3-2.
The Wildcats continue conference play Wednesday night when they host in-state rival Arizona State at 7:00 p.m. at McKale Center.
