Former UCLA Pitcher David Huff Listed as Top Minor League Prospect

DURHAM, N.C. - Left-handed pitcher David Huff, who starred on the mound for UCLA in 2006, has been rated the No. 11 prospect in the Eastern League by Baseball America. Huff went 11-5 with a 2.52 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 146.1 innings in 2008, pitching for two Cleveland Indians' minor league affiliates.

Huff was promoted from the Akron Aeros (class AA, Eastern League) to the Buffalo Bisons (class AAA, International League) midway through the 2008 season. The former UCLA standout made 27 total appearances - 11 games (10 starts) for Akron and 16 starts for Buffalo.

Pitching for Akron, Huff went 5-1 with a 1.92 ERA, 62 strikeouts and 14 walks in 65.2 innings. The left-hander from Huntington Beach, Calif., went 6-4 with a 3.01 ERA, 81 strikeouts and 15 walks in 80.2 innings with Buffalo.

A supplemental-round selection by the Cleveland Indians in the 2006 MLB Draft (39th overall), Huff posted a 7-4 record and 2.98 ERA in 16 starts as a junior at UCLA in 2006. The left-hander registered 100 strikeouts and 27 walks in 129.2 innings, the seventh-highest single-season innings total in program history.
