Family Weekend a Potential Sellout

Oct. 1, 2008

TUCSON--The University of Arizona should surpass the 53,000 mark by the end of business today for advance ticketing to Saturday's Washington-Arizona football game in Arizona Stadium.

'We're really optimistic about a sellout, but have plenty of good seats available entering the sales cycles Thursday and Friday,' said James Francis, assistant athletics director for ticketing and marketing.

'It's always nice for us if we can handle much of the ticketing before game day, so we encourage fans to get their seats now,' he added. With Family Weekend one of the draws -- aside from Arizona's 3-1 start and resurgent play -- Francis said a capacity crowd is possible for the 57,400-seat facility.

Once Mom's and Dad's Day on campus in a tradition beginning in 1929, UA called it Parents' Day for 25 years beginning in 1984 and officially adopted 'Family Weekend' as the name in 1989.

Officials clearly expect another jammed crowd for what's become a home advantage, the Zona Zoo student section, he said. 'The students have made football a special attraction,' said athletics director Jim Livengood. 'You see that aroused sea of red right behind the team and know where you are.'

The game kicks off at 4:37 p.m. (MST/PDT) and will be televised live by the Versus cable network, plus carried on UA's radio network by IMG.

Patrons may purchase tickets online here through 11 a.m. Saturday, conduct transactions in person at the McKale Center Ticket Office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, or order by phone at 520-621-2287 or 800-452-2287. Game-day sales begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Stadium Ticket Office underneath the southeast corner at North Cherry Avenue and East Sixth Street.

Arizona is coming off a bye week following a decisive 31-10 Pac-10 victory at UCLA on Sept. 20. The Huskies (0-4) are in search of their first victory of the year. Washington has been a Family Weekend foe twice, whipping the WIldcats 58-28 in 1997, and by a score of 31-17 in 1995.
