COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Four current or former University of Arizona swimmers have been selected to the 2008-09 USA Swimming National Team.

Current Wildcats Lara Jackson and Annie Chandler along with recent graduates Lacey Nymeyer and Whitney Myers have been chosen to represent their country and train with the nation's elite.

To be eligible for the team, athletes must have one of the top six times in events swum at either the 2008 Olympic Games, 2008 Olympic Trials and/or the 2008 U.S. Open.

In the Beijing Olympics, Nymeyer was part of the U.S. silver medal 4 x100 freestyle relay. She posted qualifying times in both the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Jackson, entering her final year at Arizona, posted the second fastest time in the 50m freestyle -24.50, just slightly higher than Dara Torres' 24.07 in Beijing. Jackson sits atop Arizona's all-time top performers list in the 50-yard freestyle.

Myers, who was the NCAA Woman of the Year in 2007, posted a qualifying time of 2:12.07 at the Olympic Trials.

Chandler, a junior in 2008, posted a qualifying time of 1:08.02 at the Olympic Trials. She is a three-time individual NCAA champion and eight-time All-American through her collegiate career so far.

Matt Grevers, a three-time medalist who trains in Tucson under Arizona Head Coach Frank Busch, was also named to the National Team.

Current Cats Chandler and Jackson will look to defend their NCAA Championship this coming year. The teams first meet of the season is Oct. 31 against Wisconsin at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson, Ariz.
