Janessa Currier Earns National Honors

Oct. 1, 2008

USC senior Janessa Currier has become the second straight Trojan defender to earn national weekly honors from TopDrawerSoccer.com. Currier anchored the USC back line through another home shutout last week, as the No. 5-ranked Women of Troy topped Loyola Marymount 3-0 at McAlister Field.

Fellow defender Kasey Johnson earned the same accolades the previous week. Against LMU, Currier's power in the central defense helped secure the Trojans' fourth shutout win of the year. Currier had two shots in the game, and went the full 90 on the back line for USC. The win marked a new program record for the Trojans, who have gone unbeaten at home for 15 straight games after the 4-0 win over the Lions.

The award is the senior's second weekly national honor of her career, named to the SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week during her sophomore season.

USC has two nonconference games scheduled this week, hosting Cal State Bakersfield at 3 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 2) and facing Cal State Northridge at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 5) at McAlister Field.
