This week:

The Arizona soccer team (6-4) goes on the road for the fifth time this weekend, facing Santa Clara on Sunday, Oct. 5 in Santa Clara, Calif. The Wildcats and Broncos play at 1:00 p.m. in Arizona’s final non-conference game of the season. Following the game against Santa Clara, the Wildcats travel to Tempe to battle in-state rival Arizona State on Friday Oct. 10.


Scouting the Opposition:


Santa Clara- The Broncos (3-6-2) have not won a game since Sept. 7, when they beat Cal State Fullerton 2-1. Since that game, the Broncos have lost four and tied two. Arizona will be the Broncos’ final non-conference game before opening conference. Santa Clara is led by sophomore Kendra Perry, who has tallied three goals.


Series History:


Santa Clara- This will be the second meeting all-time bewteen the Broncos and Wildcats. They met for the first time last season in Tucson when Brittany Klein scored the game winning goal in the 109th minute of overtime for the Broncos.

Arizona played their fifth overtime game of the season. In a game that saw the Wildcats get outshot 13-6, they proceded to overtime notched at 0-0. Four minutes in, the Gauchos forward junior Genelle Ives scored the game winning goal off a feed from sophomore Kylie McDonald.




Sensational Freshman- Freshman RENAE CUELLAR leads the Wildcats in goals and points through ten games. Cuellar has started eight of the nine games she has played in, scoring five goals and assisting in another one. She also scored the game winning goal against Cal State Northridge in double overtime on Sept. 21.


Local Products:

Currently on the roster, the Wildcats have five local players: KARINA CAMACHO (Cienega HS), ALEX DAVIS (Flowing Wells), Jessica Culver, Analisa Marquez and BECKY BARRY (Salpointe Catholic HS).



The Wildcats have tied the programs record for the number of overtime victories with two. They have achieved this feat three other times (2000, 2006, 2007). Arizona is one game away from tying the most overtime games in a season. They have played six overtime games in 2000, 2005 and 2006.



Currently the Wildcats are ranked 12th in the west region according to However, after two straight loses the Wildcats fell from the NSCAA/adidas West Regional Rankings. They are still receiving votes.



Dan Tobias, the winningest coach at Arizona, continues to add to his numbers. With six victories this season Tobias now has 52 wins at Arizona and 96 for his career. His record at Arizona is 52-52-8 and his career record is 96-97-14.
