Former Trojans Earn WNBA Awards
Oct. 3, 2008
The WNBA has bestowed two former Women of Troy with high honors this season, naming Lisa Leslie the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year and Ebony Hoffman the WNBA Most Improved Player of the Year.
The defensive award marks yet another accolade for Lisa Leslie, who returned from winning her fourth straight Olympic gold medal to rejoin the Los Angeles Sparks. The remarkable Trojan has had her USC jersey retired, and has captured three MVP awards and been named to eight All-WNBA First Teams during her WNBA career. She averaged 15.1 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 1.5 steals per game for the Sparks in 2008.
Ebony Hoffman's Most Improved award is the first WNBA honor since joining the league four years ago. Playing with the Indiana Fever, she averaged 10.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 2008. She set a new career high in scoring this season with 26 points at New York and twice tied her career best of 13 rebounds.
