Bruins Come Back to Beat Oregon State in Five

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Trailing two sets to one, the fifth-ranked Bruins rallied to win the fourth and the fifth to defeat Oregon State on Saturday at Gill Coliseum. Scores were 25-21, 21-25, 22-25, 25-15, 15-11. Sophomore Emily Clements set career highs with 16 kills and six blocks to lead UCLA.
The Bruins improve to 11-3 overall and 1-2 in Pac-10 play, while the Beavers fall to 12-5 and 1-3 in league action.
Freshman Katie Camp fell just shy of a double-double with 10 kills and nine blocks, which tied a career high. Senior Nellie Spicer posted a double-double, her fourth in the last five matches, with 44 assists and 14 digs. Freshman Amanda Gil had nine kills and eight blocks, while sophomore Juliane Piggott recorded eight kills and five blocks. Defensively, senior Jessica Fine had 20 digs, the fourth straight match which she has posted at least 20 digs. Junior Laura Holloway and freshman Lainey Gera also had nine digs apiece. The Bruins hit .136 as a team.
Oregon State hit .061 as a team. Rachel Rourke led the Beavers with 20 kills, Bree Knitter had 12 kills and 10 digs and Camilla Ah-Hoy recorded 39 assists and 15 digs.
The Bruins play their first home matches of 2008 next weekend when they host Washington on Friday and Washington State on Saturday at Pauley Pavilion.
