Cal Men's Tennis Falls at D'Novo/ITA All-American Qualifier

TULSA, Okla. - California men's tennis experienced a rough day today at the 2008 D'Novo/ITA All-American Championship qualifier on the courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. as both senior Eoin Heavey and junior Kallim Stewart bowed out in the first round of play. The Golden Bears will however, have a chance to earn wins via the back-draw/consolation round. The two will also team up to face Ignacio Taboada and Keith Crowley of Miami in the doubles qualifier in a match taking place not before 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 7).

Ranked No. 64 among singles players, and seeded 17th in the tournament, Stewart was able to take his match with Kean Feeder of Boise State to three sets before falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. No. 121-ranked Eoin Heavey barely got clipped in the first set, 7-6, edged in the tiebreaker by an 8-6 score, but fell to Ionut Beleleu of Oklahoma, 6-3 in the second. Both players will be entered into a singles back-draw bracket and have a chance to earn rankings points with wins against some of the top players in the country.
