Quotes From Rudy Carpenter's Weekly Press Conference

Oct. 6, 2008

On if he will be able to practice this week:
'I'm going to try. I'm not too sure. I'm sure everyone has questions about my foot, but I don't know what's going to happen.'

On his streak of 36 consecutive starts:
'I don't really think about that. I just want to play. We work so hard to play, and you don't want to let anything keep you out. I feel like as long as I can walk, then I can play. I feel like I can walk right now, so I feel like I can play, but realistically, we'll have to take it day by day during the week at practice.'

On what happened with the passing game against Cal:
'I don't know what the numbers were, but no big plays, and we had no opportunities for really big plays. We have to find a way, as a whole offense, to get better on first and second down.'

On if he is getting frustrated:
'I watch the film every week and practice every week. We try to run our game plan, and on offense, we haven't been executing the way that we should be. We haven't been completing passes. We haven't been making big plays. So, I'm trying to find the answer.'

On if it might be better for him to not play if he is limited by the injury:
'We have a long season still, and we can still win a lot of games. I don't think it's fair to the guys on our team who work really hard to put me out there if I can't give them the best opportunity to win. If Coach Erickson thinks that I can give them the best opportunity to win, then I think that he'll let me play. But if he feels that I can't, then I think he'd be doing the right thing by putting in the best guy to play.'

On what he has seen from Danny Sullivan in practice:
'I think Danny's a good player. He's got a strong arm. He can make good decisions. He's been here for a little while, so I think that if he's given an opportunity, I think he'll do well.'

On if he feared the worst about his injury:
'I wasn't exactly sure, because it happened early in the fourth quarter, and I obviously played the rest of the game. After the game, I felt OK, but as soon as I took my shoe off at the end of the game, it started to hurt. So, I was a little worried about it and feared the worst, but after a couple of days have gone by, it's felt a little bit better each day. So, I'm just staying hopeful that it continues to stay on that track and gets better every day, so I can play on Saturday.'
