Women's Tennis Heads to St. Mary's Invitational

BERKELEY - The California women's tennis team heads over the hill to Moraga, Calif. for the St. Mary's Invitational at the Korth Tennis Complex this weekend, Oct. 10-12. The Golden Bears will play in their final individual tournament before the ITA Regional Championships. In addition to host St. Mary's, Cal will also face players from Stanford, Washington, Portland, Gonzaga, San Francisco, Santa Clara, UC Davis, Pacific, San Jose State, Boise State, Sacramento State and Nevada.
Selected Cal players will compete at the three-day invitational where play opens at 8:30 a.m. each day beginning on Friday, Oct. 10 and will include separate singles and doubles draws as well as a back-draw for eliminated players. Singles and doubles finals will take place on Sunday, Oct. 12.
The Bears have three singles players ranked in the ITA preseason rankings including No. 7 sophomore Marina Cossou. Seniors No. 22 Claire Ilcinkas and No. 65 Bojana Bobusic are also ranked. As a pair, Cossou and Ilcinkas are ranked No. 24 among doubles teams.
Ranked singles players potentially appearing at the tournament this weekend include No. 4 Hilary Barte (Stanford); No. 13 Jessica Nguyen (Stanford); No. 21 Katrina Zheltova (Sacramento State); No. 28 Venise Chan (Washington); No. 48 Lindsay Burdette (Stanford); No. 58 Maria Mizyuk (Nevada); No. 62 Jenni Heinser (San Francisco); No. 77 Carolyn McVeigh (Stanford); No. 91 Caroline Bailly (Nevada); No. 112 Jessica Hoath (St. Mary's); and No. 122 Jennifer Yen (Stanford).
Ranked doubles teams potentially appearing at the invitational include No. 5 Barte and Burdette (Stanford); No. 26 Bailly and Mizyuk (Nevada); No. 42 Nguyen and Logan Hansen (Stanford).
