MORAGA, Calif. -
The California women’s tennis team completed play at the St. Mary’s Invitational today by claiming both the singles and doubles titles in the Red Flight. The top-seeded Golden Bear duo of freshman Jana Juricova and sophomore Rachael Dillon teamed up to defeat second-seeded Carolyn McVeigh and Logan Hansen of Stanford in the doubles final, 8-5.
Moments after working together to win the doubles crown, Dillon and Juricova returned to the Korth Tennis Complex courts, but this time as adversaries. The two met in the Red Flight singles semifinal round where the sixth-seeded Juricova made short work of her teammate by taking a 6-1, 6-2 win. Juricova carried the momentum from defeating Dillon into the final round, where she took out top-seeded No. 62-ranked Jenni Heinser of San Francisco, 6-2, 6-3.
Freshman Stephany Chang took a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Aleksandra Malovic of Washington in round robin play while fellow frosh Catalina Visico fell in straight sets to Laura Baum of Boise State, 6-2, 6-0.
