Cougars Set for First Practice Friday

Oct. 15, 2008

PULLMAN, Wash. - Fresh off back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, the Washington State University men's basketball team will hold its first official practice of the 2008-09 season Friday at 5 p.m.

Led by third-year head coach Tony Bennett, the Cougars return two starters from last season's Sweet 16 team which tied a school record with 26 wins. Five letterwinners return, including seniors Aron Baynes, Caleb Forrest, Daven Harmeling and Taylor Rochestie and junior Nikola Koprivica.

'It's always exciting to start the season with the first official practice,' Harmeling said. 'A lot of times people don't realize the work we put in year-around and leading up to it. It's not like it's going to be our first time in the gym in forever, but there is an air of excitement to it, just being the first official practice. It's exciting for everybody.'

Joining the group of returnees are 2007-08 squad members sophomore Fabian Boeke and redshirt freshmen Charlie Enquist and Abe Lodwick. The Cougars welcome seven new faces to the team this year in true freshmen John Allen, Marcus Capers, DeAngelo Casto, Mike Harthun, Klay Thompson, James Watson and Nick Witherill.

The Cougars' practices this weekend are closed to the public. WSU hosts Lewis-Clark State in an exhibition game, Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at Friel Court. The Cougs open up the regular season, Saturday, Nov. 15 against Mississippi Valley State at Friel Court at 7 p.m.
