    STANFORD, Calif.- Stanford serves as the host site for this weekend's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northwest Championship, with competition scheduled for Oct. 17-20 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

    In addition to host Stanford, the event will showcase the top players from the following Northwest region schools: California, Cal Poly, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Nevada, Oregon, Pacific, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, UC Davis, Washington and Washington State.

    Sixteen other ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division 1 men and women are taking place during this month at campuses throughout the country. The singles finalists and doubles champion from each regional earn berths to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, slated for Nov. 6-9 in Charlottesville, Va. Winners and finalists from the various ITA Regional Championships around the country, plus at-large selections, will make up the singles field of 32 and the 16-team doubles draw.

    The Cardinal will be represented in singles this weekend with seven entrants. Sophomore Hilary Barte enters the weekend as the tournament's No. 1 seed while junior Lindsay Burdette (No. 8) and sophomore Carolyn McVeigh (12) are also seeded. Barte and Burdette earn first-round byes. McVeigh will open the tournament against Santa Clara's Kelly Buckley.

    Sophomore Jennifer Yen battles Molly Aloia of Saint Mary's and three Cardinal freshmen will make their Taube Family Tennis Stadium debuts. Courtney Clayton takes on Santa Clara's Stephanie Galainena, Logan Hansen faces Washington State's Ekaterina Kamendova and Veronica Li squares off against Sacramento State's Gayane Sarkisian.

    In doubles action, Stanford has three teams entered. Two squads are seeded, as Burdette and McVeigh have been assigned the No. 6 seed while Barte and Li check in at No. 7 Both teams have first-round byes.

    Hansen and Yen will pair up to face Washington's Venise Chan and Denise Dy.
