TUCSON- The Arizona Wildcats (8-5, 1-1) were defeated by defending national champion USC Women of Troy (12-0-1, 2-0-1) 2-0 Friday night at Murphy field. The Women of Troy capitalized on two mistakes to end the Wildcats two-game winning streak.

“For the first 39 minutes we played really well,” head coach Dan Tobias said. “Then we made a mistake and they took advantage. That is what good teams do.”

The Women of Troy got on the board in the 39th minute when senior Ashley Nick played a clearing mistake from the Arizona defense and crossed the ball to freshman Ashley Freyer who had a partial break on the left side and found the open net.

The Wildcats continued to the Women of Troy tough until the 81st minute when the Wildcats failed to clear the ball and Nick Ashley capitalized from 15 yards out.

“Two mistakes, two goals,” Tobias said. “Against a team like them you can’t turn the ball over. We did not protect the ball as well as we should have.”

USC out shot Arizona 20-to-four with ten of them coming on goal.

Redshirt junior Chelsea McIntyre recorded eight saves, giving her 64 on the year.

Arizona will play the third ranked UCLA Bruins on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Field. UCLA defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils 3-0.

The Arizona women’s soccer team will be signing autographs tomorrow at The Fan Fiesta at Bear Down Field before the California/Arizona football game. Gates open at 4:00 p.m.
