Five Cardinal Tennis Players Advance To Round Of 32 At ITA Regional Championships

BERKELEY, Calif. -

Five Stanford men’s tennis players are still alive in the singles bracket of the ITA Regional Championships after advancing to the Round of 32 this afternoon at the UC Berkeley. Singles play will resume tomorrow, while doubles play will begin as well.

Results from Day 1

Round of 128 (Singles)

Sophomore Greg Hirshman easily defeated his opponent from Sacramento State, Marko Starcevic; 6-1, 6-0.

Senior Blake Muller (17) needed three sets to defeat Washington’s Brad Bator; 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-3.

Freshman Jamie Hutter battled Saint Mary’s Jeff Emmerson and emerged victorious; 6-4, 6-2.

Ted Kelly fell to 17th-seeded Sacramento State’s Kiryl Harbatsiuk; 7-6(2), 6-2.

Senior Jeff Zeller defeated Gonzaga’s Tyler Campbell in straight sets; 7-5, 6-4.

Round of 64 (Singles)

Fourth-ranked and top-seeded freshman Alex Clayton topped Portland’s Nikoloz Kurdadz; 6-3, 6-2.

Hutter retired due to injury in his match against Washington’s David Chu when it was 4-2 in the first set. Muller (17) overcame Pacific’s Ryan Kim; 6-2, 6-3.

Freshman Bradley Klahn (9) defeated UC Davis’ Michael Reiser; 6-3, 6-2.

Hirshman (17) beat Portland’s Evan Schleining; 6-3, 6-2.

Junior No. 66 Richard Wire (5) defeated Portland’s Bryan Thorp; 6-2, 6-0.

Fresno State’s Rudolf Siwy (2) ended Zeller’s campaign in the bracket, defeating him 6-4, 6-1.
