Oct. 20, 2008
The Arizona State men's basketball is ranked 13th in Lindy's annual college basketball preseason Top 25, the magazine announced earlier this week. The Sun Devils are picked to finish second in the Pac-10 behind UCLA.
ASU has obtained several top-25 preseason rankings this year. They are ranked 25th by Rivals.com and 15th in the Blue Ribbon Yearbook and Sporting News.
ASU returns its top seven scorers from last years 21-13 team that tied for tops in the nation in win improvement. The Sun Devils were 8-22 in 2006-07, but last year defeated NCAA Tournament teams Xavier, Stanford, Oregon, USC and Arizona twice. ASU is led by senior Jeff Pendergraph, a second team All-Pac-10 pick and first-team senior All-American this year, and sophomore James Harden, a first team All-Pac-10 selection this year.
The Sun Devils open their season at home on Friday, Nov. 14, against Mississippi Valley State, 2007-08 SWAC champions and a 16th seed in last years NCAA Tournament.
