USC Posts Solid Final Regular Season Finish
Oct. 24, 2008
FULLERTON, CALIF. - USC's women's cross country team had a solid regular season finish at the Titan Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. today (Oct. 24), but did not figure in the team scoring as they did not have enough official runners in the race. The Trojans had six runners in the meet, but three were running unnattached and five scorers are needed to count in the team competition.
USC's three official runners were freshman Jessica Lundin who had a time of 18:48.5 and was the 11th runner to cross the finish line, senior Liz Gill who had a time of 19:26.4 and junior Jasmine Leija who posted a time of 19:53.2.
Running unattached and in their first collegiate cross country races were freshman Anniya Louis, sophomores Frida Flodstrom and Allison Rojewski. Louis was the team's top finisher with a new 5K PR of 18:48.0 and just ahead of Lundin. Louis is redshirting this cross country season as is Flodstrom. Flodstrom, running in pretty much her first career cross country race as she is an 800m runner from Sweden, ran the course in 18:51.3 and was the 13th runner to cross the finish line. Rojewski finished the 5K course in 20.45.4.
'Having three girls under 19:00 minutes was impressive,' said USC cross country coach Tom Walsh. 'Jessica ended her season on a good note and Anniya and Frida ran well for their first race of the season.'
USC will be competing at the Pac-10 Championships in Eugene, Ore. on Friday, Oct. 31. The Trojan squad for that meet will be sophomore Zsofia Erdelyi, sophomore Sarah Cocco, junior Bridget Helgerson, junior Christine Greer, junior Chanel Fischetti, junior Katherine Ellis and sophomore Zara Lukens. Also, freshman Leah Gaeta will serve as an alternate on the trip.
