GymDawgs Journal - Lauren Eller

Hey GymDawg fans!
Wow, all I can say is that we are getting better week after week! With our first intrasquad quickly approaching, and the season in the near future, the intensity has definitely started to rise. I can also say that today can be seen as a definite mark of the end of one of our most successful weeks yet. We are getting more and more consistent and confident with our routines as we prepare for the season. In the gym we have continued to do partner assignments, along with more pressure assignments. And I can definitely say that we are already starting to become more solid when we need to the most!
This week was also a special week outside of the gym because we celebrated not one GymDawg birthday, but two! Happy Birthday to Amanda (who turned 19 on Tuesday) and to Danielle (who turned 19 on Wednesday)! To celebrate, Karen made a very delicious cake. And also, because Ruby was able to hit such an excellent bar sequence under pressure, we only had one set of conditioning on Tuesday. It was a great way to start out the first half of the week.
Another fun event out of the gym was that the team all got together to volunteer at a Halloween carnival at a local community center. It was so much fun! Most of us worked the nail and face painting booth, discovering our inner artistic ability, while others worked the 'fishing' booth. But no matter where we were stationed, there were many little Power Rangers, Snow Whites, policemen, geishas, and princesses to please! It is from events like these that I feel that we not only bond as a team but also have a great time connecting with and giving back to the community.
As a freshman, I have only been here since the end of August, but I already feel so close to my teammates. The UW is such an amazing place; the academic and athletic atmospheres are incredible. I feel that we are all so happy to be here, which is so important to the success of a team. Also, this team's drive and motivation always amazes me as we push through midterms, sore muscles, and harder assignments. With all of the hard work we put in now, it is sure to become visible this season! I can't wait to see you all at our meets!!!!!
