Lawrie Leads Team Gold To Scrimmage Victory

Oct. 30, 2008

SEATTLE - Behind the clutch hitting & dominant pitching of junior Danielle Lawrie, Team Gold defeated Team Purple, 1-0, to cap off the annual Purple & Gold Week Challenge for the Husky softball team.

Lawrie struck out 10 and hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel Team Gold to a hard-fought victory. Team Purple tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh as freshman Niki Williams doubled to left field but she was stranded at second base to end the game.

The Purple & Gold Week Challenge wraps up the fall season for the Husky softball team, which cruised to a 7-0 overall record in the exhibition season. The team will now move into its off-season individual workout sessions.

The Huskies, who will be looking to make their 16th consecutive NCAA postseason appearance, will open the 2009 season against Tennessee on February 5 at Noon PT, at the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah.
