Cal Men Tie for Third at Pac-10 Championships

The No. 24 California men's cross country team tied for third with No. 24 Washington with 104 points Friday at the Pac-10 Championships, held at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ore. Senior Yosef Ghebray and Mark Matusak led the Golden Bears as each finished in the top 15. The Cal women finished eighth with 209 points.

Top-ranked Oregon won the men's 8K team crown with 28 points. Following the Ducks was No. 2 Stanford in second with 47 points. After Cal and Washington, No. 13 UCLA came in fifth and Washington State took sixth.

Ghebray paced the Bears, placing sixth at 23:43. The other top Cal runners were Matusak and junior Michael Coe. Matusak took 14th, touring the course in 23:56, while Coe finished in 21st at 24:22.

Galen Rupp and Luke Puskedra from Oregon finished first and second, respectively, in 22:55 and 23:32.

For the women, top-ranked Washington won the women's 6K title with 15 points, while No. 2 Oregon was second with 55 points and No. 18 Stanford was third with 99 points.

Freshman Debra Maier led the Bears by placing 41st in a time of 21:25. Junior Gabriela Rios-Sotelo didn't finish far behind Maier, taking 43rd overall.

The Huskies claimed the three top spot in the women's race with Kendra Schaaf taking top honors at 19:24.

Cal next travels to the NCAA West Regional on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 11:00 a.m. in Stanford, Calif.
