Stanford In A Tie For Third After First Day Of CordeValle Classic

Nov. 3, 2008

SAN MARTIN, Calif. -

Sophomore Sihwan Kim and junior Joseph Bramlett both hit well enough today to find a place in the top-10 on the individual leaderboard following today’s opening round of the CordeValle Collegiate, helping the eighth-ranked Stanford men’s golf team into a tie for third place with two rounds left to play.

The Cardinal battled soggy and windy conditions on its way to a 10-over-par 370, thirteen strokes behind third-ranked leader USC, which was the only school to notch an under-par cumulative score after 18 holes. Charlotte stands between Stanford and the Trojans in second with a seven-over-par 367.

Kim, last year’s CordeValle Classic individual champion, carded a three-under-par 69, and is tied with USC’s top-ranked Matthew Giles. Kim birdied the fifth hole before he eagled the sixth hole, and then sank two more birds on the back-nine.

Bramlett, ranked 14th in the country, also performed solidly, dropping four birdies and earning a one-under-71, good enough for a tie for 6th place.

Freshman David Chung and seniors Daniel Lim and Dodge Kemmer also contributed to the Cardinal’s total on the day. Chung shot a three-over-75, Lim a five-over-77, and Kemmer a six-over-78. All three are in the top-50 on the leaderboard.

Also, competing as an individual, junior Jordan Cox is currently tied with teammate Chung for 30th place. Cox’s score is not included in the team’s total.

Stanford is paired with Arkansas for tomorrow’s second round, and will tee off at 9:12 a.m. from the 10th hole. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.
