Bruin Hoops Picked Fifth in Media Poll

Coach Nikki Caldwell's Bruin women's basketball team was projected to finish fifth in the Pac-10 Conference this season in a vote of Pac-10 media members. The Bruins open the 2008-09 season on Nov. 16 against Cal State Fullerton at 2 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.

Stanford, which received 13 of a possible 14 first-place votes, was tabbed to win the Pac-10 conference title with 139 points in the voting. California, which garnered the other first-place vote, totaled 126 points and was picked to finish second. Arizona State (112), USC (94), UCLA (85), Oregon (64), Washington (56), Oregon State (51), Arizona (26) and Washington State (21) rounded out the media polling.

The media members also selected their Preseason All-Conference team which featured forward / center Jayne Appel and forward Kayla Pedersen of Stanford, center Devanei Hampton and forward Ashley Walker of California and guard Briann January of Arizona State.
