USC Gets Win Over ASU

The USC men's swimming and diving team finished the weekend off strong with a win over ASU, 149-92 on Saturday (Nov. 15) at McDonald's Swim Stadium. Arizona also competed in the meet, however it was only scored between USC and ASU.

USC started out strong, finishing first and second in the 200 y medley relay, with times of 1:32.68 and 1:33.40, respectively.

The Trojans swept the 100 y free with junior Evan Marcus finishing first (9:26.76), sophomore Kevin Little in second (9:30.60) and freshman Dillon Connolly rounding out the top three (9:32.68). Connolly also finished second (1:51.12) in the 200 y IM. Sophomore James Martin came in third (1:51.23) in the 200 y IM. Connolly tallied another second place win in the 100 y breast (55.58).

Sophomore Zoltan Povazsay came in second in the 200 y free (1:39.06).

In the 50 y free the Trojans turned out second and third place victories, with freshman Jake Grosser in second (20.74) and freshman Buddy Turner finishing third (20.81). Turner also turned out a third place performance in the 100 y fly (50.10).

Sophomore Steven Starks placed second in the 1 m diving (341.71) and Harrison Jones came in second (308.92). Starks also tallied a third place win in 3 m diving (363.89).

USC finished off the day with a time of 1:23.27 in the 200 y free relay, anchored by sophomore Andrew Schneider.

This win brings the team to 3-0 in dual meets. Next up for the Trojans is a trip to Seattle, Wash. for the Husky Invite (Dec. 4-6).

Women of Troy Beat ASU

The No. 11 Women of Troy beat ASU 132-67 on Saturday (Nov. 15) at McDonalds Swim Stadium, behind strong performances from senior Rebecca Soni and freshman Katinka Hosszu.

The Women of Troy started out the meet with a second place finish in the 200 y medley relay with a time of 1:45.53.

Soni followed next with her first of two wins in the 1000 y free (10:14.43). Freshman Katie Kiefer followed in third (10:37.60). Soni's next win came in the 200 y breaststroke, where she finished 2:14.58. Freshman Ania Kowalczyk also placed, coming in third (2:20.30). Kowalczyk added a third place victory in the 200 y breast (2:20.30).

Hosszu, who tallied three wins on the day, won the 200 y free (1:48.87), which USC swept. Coming in second was senior Kristen Lahey (1:51.57) and freshman Ellie Doran (1:54.18). Hosszu's second victory was in the 200 y butterfly (1:57.21). Junior Rachael Waller finished third (2:03.08). Her final win came in the 200 y IM (2:01.68).

In the 100 y backstroke, sophomore Whitney Stephenson finished second (56.99) and freshman Kristen Lahey came in third (58.21), behind ASU's Sasha Stephens (56.99). Lahey also finished second in the 100 y free (51.14).

Junior Katy Houston pulled out a first place victory in the 100 y breast (1:03.57).

Freshman Tori Ishimatsu finished first (311.12) in the 3 m diving competition and first in the 1 m diving (321.75).

Sophomore Dina Hegazy finished first (2:02.82) in the 200 y back and Stephenson came in third (2:03.84).

The Women of Troy finished one-two in the 500 y free, with freshman Ellie Doran in first (4:56.84) and freshman Krissy Forelli coming in second (4:56.88).USC is now 2-0 in dual meets. The Women of Troy will travel to Seattle, Wash. for the Husky Invitational (Dec. 4-6).
