Darren Collison Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA senior point guard Darren Collison has been named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week for November 10-16, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Collison led the Bruins to wins over Prairie View A&M, 82-58, and Miami (OH) University, 64-59, in the first and second rounds of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native averaged 17.5 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals in his first two games of the 2008-09 season.
Collison has a team-high 19 points and added four assists, three steals and three rebounds in the win over PVAMU. In the win over Miami, his two free throws with 21 seconds left sealed the game for UCLA, giving the Bruins a 62-59 lead. Collison tied fellow senior Josh Shipp for a team-high 16 points against the RedHawks.
Collison was named the MVP of the Los Angeles Regional of the 2K Sports Classic for his efforts in the first two rounds. The Bruins face Michigan on Thursday, Nov. 20 in New York's Madison Square Garden for the Semifinals of the 2K Sports Classic.
This marks the third weekly honor for Collison and the 49th all-time for UCLA.
