OSU's Rhea Selected U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Nov. 17, 2008
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON STATE sophomore Talisa Rhea was named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the season's first weekly honor, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced.
A 5-11 guard, Rhea knocked down a Pac-10 Conference-record 10 three pointers in a 100-45 rout of Sacramento State in the Beavers' opening game of the season on Sunday. Rhea's performance bested the previous mark of nine set by Stanford's Molly Goodenbour against Tennessee on Dec. 21, 1992. The record was tied on Feb. 24, 2001 by former Cardinal Lindsey Yamasaki against Washington. The 10 threes are two shy of the NCAA mark.
A native of Juneau, Alaska, Rhea was 10-for-19 from long range, shooting 52.6 percent from the field, netting 42 points overall, tying her for the fifth-best mark in OSU history. Her final three put the Beavers at 100 points, the first 100-point game for OSU in more than five seasons. She shot 58.3 percent (14-for-24) from the floor for the game, also going 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Rhea added a career-high five assists and three steals in the victory, as well.
It is the second time Rhea has received the Pac-10 Player of the Week honor and is Oregon State's 30th all-time.
The Beavers host Houston on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m., before heading to the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas over the Thanksgiving holiday.
ALSO NOMINATED: Monique Alexander, UCLA; Micaela Cooks, ORE; Sybil Dosty, ASU; Aarika Hughes, USC; Laura McLellan, WASH.
