Stanford Wrestling Signs Five To Class Of 2013

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford head coach Jason Borrelli and his staff have signed five promising high school seniors to wrestle for the Cardinal next year. The class of 2013, which was announced by Borrelli today, includes Kyle Meyer, Jordan Gray, Sam Umlauf, Richard Kessler and Anthony Degani.
The class is headlined by Meyer, a three-time state champion out of Monett High School in Monett, Mo. A two-time NHSCA High School All-American, the 145-pounder also placed at the sophomore and junior national tournaments. Expected to wrestle at 149 or 157 pounds for the Cardinal, he owns a 129-2 record heading into his senior season.
Stanford brings in another state champion in Gray, who is a two-time titlist from Essex Junction, Vt. The Essex High School standout will likely wrestle at 133 or 141 pounds for Stanford next season.
Umlauf and Kessler are both state placers from Wisconsin. Umlauf, who hails from Wausau, Wis., finished third at 125 pounds last year, while Kessler, a native of Elkhorn, Wis., was the state runner-up at 160 pounds. Umlauf is expected to be a 149-pounder for the Cardinal, while Kessler will likely wrestle at 184 pounds. The class is rounded out by Degani, a 184/197-pound standout from Crystal Lake, Ill. who will add key depth to the Cardinal upper weights.
'Our staff is very excited about this class,' said Borrelli. 'All of the guys are incredibly dedicated to both wrestling and academics and will have a big part in continuing to build our program and move it forward. They all have a lot of potential, and we expect many of them to be big contributors for us right away.'
