Jayne Appel Captures U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week Honor

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 5/8 Stanford claimed its first weekly conference honor of the season Monday as the Pac-10 Conference announced that junior center Jayne Appel was named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week.
Appel posted her first double-double of the season and averaged 12.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.00 assists over Stanford's weekend victories over New Mexico and No. 3/2 Rutgers. The announcement also marks the fourth time in Appel's career that she has earned the Pac-10's weekly honor.
Thursday against New Mexico, Appel pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds while matching her career-high with a game-high seven assists in Stanford's 84-46 rout of the Lobos. Three days later against No. 3/2 Rutgers, Appel pounded her way to 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting and 14 rebounds as the Cardinal ran away with an 81-47 decision against the Scarlet Knights. The wins improved Stanford's season record to 3-1.
Stanford hits the road for the Thanksgiving weekend, heading to Hawai'i to participate in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic hosted by the University of Hawai'i. The Cardinal opens up play in Honolulu Friday, Nov. 28 against No. 19/- Purdue, continues action the next day against No. 25/24t Iowa State, and finishes off the weekend Sunday against host Hawai'i.
