Nov. 25, 2008

UCLA senior Erik Flores tied for 10th at the Western Refining College All-American Golf Classic Tuesday and incoming freshman Pontus Widegren received the Jerry Cole Sportsmanship Award from the AJGA.

Flores posted scores of 75-67-71--213 (E) at the El Paso Country Club. He finished six strokes off the lead in a tournament won by Oklahoma State's Trent Leon.

Widegren, 18, received his award in recognition for his respect for fellow players, as well as tournament staff and volunteers. The award was given to him at the 31st annual Rolex junior All-America Awards Banquet in Reunion, Fla.

'We have come to know and admire Pontus,' said Billy Denlaff, National Director of Golf for the TPC Network and TPC Sawgrass, 'and (we) have witnessed his integrity, respect and positive attitude both on and off the golf course.'
