Pac-10 Q&A: Washington Gymnast Kelly Gilbert

Nov. 25, 2008

Q&A with Washington Gymnast Kelly Gibert

Kelly Gilbert, a senior who hails from Phoenix, Ariz., is a beam and floor routine specialist. She enters the 2009 season as a member of the Huskies' starting lineup on beam. Washington opens up its season against Alaska on Jan. 9, 2009.

On my iPod... Country! Current fave tune is Luke Bryan's Country Man.

Luke Bryan album cover

Favorite author... Jodi Picoult, novels about family, relationships, and love.

Cover of My Sister

Love to trade places for a day with...  My mom, especially a decade ago when my three sisters and I were younger. Getting to experience her day-to-day tribulations and triumphs while raising four daughters and working would give me a great appreciation for her.

Favorite value in others... Honesty.

Talent I'd most like to have... Not having to sleep. I'd prefer to use that time for hanging out with friends.

Sleeping moon

Ideal afternoon spent with friends... A bit of time spent talking with one another, followed by a trip to the movies.

Latest flick seen at the theater... Role Models. I give it four stars and two thumbs up!

Role Models

Best fan sign in our stands... The team parents have a sign for each gymnast on the team. When a given gymnast is about to compete, half the parents yell 'Go!', and the other half respond with that gymnast's name and hoist up her sign.

Best community outreach experience... Last year we volunteered in the play room at Seattle Children's Hospital. We decorated Christmas cards with the children - lots of adorable messages were written! This year the team is really excited about adopting a family for the holidays and fulfilling their Christmas wish-list.

Biggest pet peeve... When I let someone merge in front of me on the highway and they don't wave in acknowledgement. I tend to get a little feisty as a result!
