Brandon Gibson Named to Phil Steele's All-Pac-10 First Team

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University wide receiver Brandon Gibson was named to Phil Steele's 2008 All-Pacific-10 Conference First Team, it was announced Thursday. Additionally, three other Cougars, senior Greg Trent and juniors Kenny Alfred and Chantz Staden were each named to Phil Steele's All-Pac-10 Third Team.

Gibson, a 6-foot-1, 201-pound senior from Puyallup, Wash., finished the season with 57 receptions and 673 receiving yards, both led the Cougars and ranked sixth and ninth, respectively, in the Pac-10. Gibson added two touchdown catches and 19 yards rushing to his season totals. He finished his career with 182 receptions, second in school history and 20th all-time in the Pac-10 Conference. Gibson also ends his career as the Cougars all-time receiving yardage leader with 2,756 yards, 20th in Pac-10 history.

Trent, a 5-11, 230-pound middle linebacker from Keller, Texas, finished the season with a team-leading 88 tackles (52 solo), which places him 12th in the Pac-10. He also posted five tackles-for-loss and one sack. Trent forced one fumble and intercepted one pass with a return of 18 yards. Trent finished his WSU career with 323 tackles, good for seventh on the Cougars' all-time list.

Alfred, a 6-2, 300-pound center from Gig Harbor, Wash., started all thirteen games for the Cougars during the 2008 campaign. Alfred was the anchor of the offensive line where he has now started 17 straight games, while playing in 32 games over the past three seasons.

Staden, a 5-10, 200-pound running back from San Jose, Calif., was WSU's leading kick returner averaging 22.6 yards per return. Staden returned 43 kicks for 970 yards with a long of 65 yards on the season. His eight kickoff returns against Stanford set a single-game record for WSU, eclipsing a record that stood since 1969. Staden also led the Cougars in punt returns, averaging 4.2 yards per return, while rushing for 160 yards to go with 56 receiving yards.
