All-American Rodriguez Gears Back Up For USA

Dec. 9, 2008

USC's Amy Rodriguez will suit back up in red, white and blue this weekend, as the Trojans' senior All-American rejoins her U.S. Olympic teammates for a clash with China. The match presents the first game back with Team USA for Rodriguez, who led the Trojans in scoring this season after winning Olympic gold with the United States during the summer. Now that she has wrapped up her illustrious USC playing career, Rodriguez will compete with the U.S. squad for the next two games in the Achieve Your Gold Tour. Rodriguez and Team USA face China PR in a local match at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., at 6 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 13).

During her USC career, Rodriguez helped propel the Trojans to four straight NCAA appearances, including the program's first-ever NCAA Championship in 2007. Six months after winning the national championship with USC, Rodriguez earned a selection to the U.S. Olympic Team, and brought home a gold medal with Team USA before heading into her final season as a Trojan. She was USC's top scorer this season with eight goals in taking the Trojans to the 2008 NCAA Third Round, and recently earned her second career honor as an NSCAA Third Team All-American - one of just three USC athletes to earn such an honor twice in her USC career.

In her four years at Troy, Rodriguez scored 31 career goals to rank No. 4 all-time at USC. Also No. 4 all-time in career points with 79, Rodriguez stands among the top-6 in four different career categories at Troy. She is No. 2 all-time in career game-winning goals with 12 and is No. 6 in career assists with 17. Soon after returning from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Rodriguez became the first Trojan since 1997 to notch a hat trick after a three-goal performance on October 2.

Rodriguez's return to international action begins this Saturday (Dec. 13) in the match vs. China PR at the Home Depot Center. Team USA will close out its Achieve Your Gold Tour on December 17 with a 7:30 p.m. ET match against China PR at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich.
