Sporting News Names Jacquizz Rodgers Freshman of the Year

Dec. 17, 2008

Corvallis, Ore. -

Oregon State's record-setting running back Jacquizz Rodgers has been named the Sporting News' 2008 National Freshman of the Year, it was announced Wednesday.

It's just the latest honor for the Richmond, Texas native, who earlier this week was named Sporting News' Pac-10 Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year. Rodgers earlier became the first freshman to be honored as Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Year by the conference.

Rodgers ran for a Pac-10 freshman record 1,263 yards, despite missing the final seven quarters of the regular season with a shoulder injury.  His status for the 75ht Brut Sun Bowl Dec. 31 remains in doubt as the team continues preparation for the Beavers' eighth bowl game in the last 10 years.

Rodgers is featured in the new issue of Sporting News magazine, which hits newsstands later this week. The magazine includes a 'Quiz on 'Quizz,' with his brother, Oregon State's James Rodgers, supplying the answers to the 10-question multiple-choice test.

Purchase tickets to the 75th annual Brut Sun Bowl by calling 1-800-Go-Beavs, visiting the Gill Coliseum ticket office.  Oregon State is playing in its eighth bowl game in 10 years.
