Five Bruins Named to All-Freshman Team

Five UCLA Bruins have been selected to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team.

On defense, free safety Rahim Moore, outside linebacker Akeem Ayers and defensive end Datone Jones were named to the squad. Moore, a true freshman, started all 12 games. He tied for the team lead with three interceptions and was fourth on the squad with 60 tackles. Ayers, a redshirt freshman, played in all 12 games, starting three. A key component in the nickel package, he ranked third on the squad with 4.0 quarterback sacks and eighth with 40 tackles. Jones, a true freshman, played in the final 10 games of the year, starting twice. He made 15 tackles.

Offensively, wide receiver Taylor Embree and tackle Jeff Baca earned spots on the squad. Embree, a true freshman, played in all 12 games, starting eight. He was second on the squad with 40 receptions and first with 531 yards and set UCLA freshman records with both marks. Baca, also a true freshman, played in nine of the last 10 games, starting eight times at the left tackle spot.

UCLA and California tied for the most selections on the 25-man team with five each. Washington and Washington State each had three players on the team while Oregon, Oregon State and Arizona State had two selections apiece.
