Louis Bland Named to Phil Steele's Freshman All-America Team

PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University freshman linebacker Louis Bland has been named to Phil Steele's Freshman All-America Third Team, it was announced this week.
Bland, a 6-foot-0, 205-pound native of Modesto, Calif., played in 12 of 13 games this past season, he missed the opener with a foot sprain, and started the final nine at linebacker for the Cougars. He finished with 55 tackles on the season (4.6 per game), including nine tackles-for-loss, two sacks, two pass breakups and one interception, which he returned 16 yards for a touchdown at Oregon State. He had a season-high nine tackles against Arizona (Nov. 8) followed by eight tackles and his first career sack at Arizona State the following week.
Bland's best game of the season may have been in WSU's 16-13, double-overtime win over Washington in the Apple Cup. He collected seven tackles, five solo, three tackles-for-loss and a pass breakup. Saving the best for overtime, Bland stopped both Husky drives with a two-yard tackle for loss in the first OT then recorded another two-yard TFL in the second OT, which forced a 37-yard FG that was missed.
In addition to his defensive duties, Bland also started on all four special teams units.
