STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford center Jayne Appel garnered her second U.S. Bank Pac-10 Player of the Week honor of the 2008-09 season, the Pac-10 Conference announced Monday. Appel's 16 points and nine rebounds played a key role in No. 11/8 Stanford's 84-49 victory over UC Davis Sunday afternoon, and her nine boards left her just shy of a fifth-straight double-double.

The player of the week honor also marks the fifth time that Appel has earned the distinction in her collegiate career and the 64th time overall that a Stanford player has been so recognized.

Appel led the team with 16 points Sunday against the Aggies, and shot 7-of-8 from the floor in just 23 minutes of action. The junior center grabbed nine of Stanford's 53 rebounds in the contest and also blocked a shot on the defensive end.

The Cardinal (9-3) opens Pac-10 play this week, traveling to the state of Arizona where it will take on the Arizona State Sun Devils Friday, Jan. 2 at 5:30 p.m. PT and end the weekend against the Arizona Wildcats Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. PT.
