GymDawgs Journal: Kristen Omori
Jan. 12, 2009
Hi GymDawg Fans!
I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. I was definitely ready to start practice after being snowed in for a couple of days, but I had great fun playing in the snow with my family and friends. My parent's front lawn displayed our family of snowmen, 'The SnOmories'.
Last Friday was the first meet of the season, for some of us the last first competition of the year, and for the freshmen, the very first meet of their college careers. Vault and bars did not go as well as we had hoped, but I am very proud of the team for finishing strongly on beam and floor. During this next week of practice, we know which areas to focus on to prepare for next week's home competition. I would also like to thank our Superfans, Chris Stevens and Falesha Ankton, for supporting us again this year. You can spot them dressed in the purple and the gold in the stands at home competitions.
Also, I am proud of our team's focus on academics. We had the highest team GPA in the entire athletic department. Congrats, especially to our freshmen, for finishing their first quarter of college. They all worked hard and had to adjust to the college life early on in the quarter while balancing practice with the classroom work. Now that season has begun, the freshmen will have to adapt to having competitions every weekend and traveling.
