Kiersten Dallstream Named to Scholar All-America Soccer Team

Jan. 13, 2009

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Washington State junior forward Kiersten Dallstream has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of American/adidas Scholar All-America Soccer Team for 2008.

A native of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Dallstream enjoyed a banner year. She helped the Cougars reach their first NCAA Championship since 2002 and was a member of the United States Under-20 World Cup team that captured a gold medal in Chile.

'This was the first time since I played as a Cougar that we got into the NCAA Tournament,' Dallstream, who missed WSU's first round match with Texas due to the World Cup, said. 'Sure, I wanted to be there with my team, and it was hard to watch it in on Gametracker. But I am looking forward to next year.'

Dallstream added, 'I made lifelong friends and had an experience few people ever get. I am lucky to have been coached by a great staff and to have played next to such talented players. Chile was beautiful, the people were beautiful, and the way the entire country loves soccer made me proud and excited to play for my country.'

Currently ranked in the Cougar career top 10 in goals (sixth, 17), points (seventh, 43) and game-winning goals (tied-ninth, 4), Dallstream recorded four goals, including a game-winner, and a career-high/team-leading five assists in 2008.

Dallstream started World Cup matches against France and China in pool play and came off the bench in the Americans semifinal match against Germany after being injured against the Chinese.

'After the injury it was very hard not to play after training so hard for so long,' Dallstream said. 'But I had confidence in my team and we all knew there was no way we going to let the USA lose. It was just a good year of soccer and a lot of things fell into place for me.'

A wildlife ecology major with a 3.48 grade point average, Dallstream also received Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic honorable mention.

'Coach Potter and the academic advisors worked with me on my schedule and found courses that would both fulfill my course requirements and accommodate the major absences I had due to the travel with WSU and the national team training camps,' Dallstream said. 'It took a lot of self-discipline and motivation. My teachers were very understanding and helped a lot.'

Although a World Cup is not on the horizon for 2009, Dallstream is optimistic she can be part of something special at WSU next fall.

'My first goal is to get back in shape and stay healthy,' Dallstream said. 'During my senior year, I would like to see us bring the team even closer together with the new freshmen, play even more united, and raise our game to the next level so we have success in the NCAA Tournament.'
