The No. 25-ranked California men's tennis team (2-0) maintained its perfect record with a 6-1 win over No. 51 Saint Mary's College (0-1) at Hellman Tennis Complex today. Sophomore Jonathan Dahan clinched the win for the Golden Bears with his 6-1, 6-2 victory over Andrea Zannoni on the fourth court.

The Bears started off strong as the No. 16-ranked doubles team of senior Geoff Chizever and sophomore Pedro Zerbini took an 8-1 win against Achim Christner and Gavin Leon on the top court. Cal claimed the doubles point when Dahan and fellow sophomore Bozhidar Katsarov defeated Sherif Hamdy and Zannoni on court three by an 8-4 count. The Gaels won the third doubles match as Steven Dawson-Roberts and Lucas Tirelli posted an 8-7(3) win over freshman Nick Andrews and junior Kallim Stewart.

Cal went up 2-0 in the match when the No. 49-ranked Stewart finished his singles match first with a 6-1, 6-1 drubbing of Christner on court two. Freshman Thai Tu was the next to finish down on court six to give the Bears a commanding 3-0 lead with his win over Youssef El Bouzkouri (6-2, 6-1). Dahan clinched the match with his straight-set win on court four next.

In his first career appearance on the top court, No. 72-ranked Zerbini fought off a strong charge by Tirelli to win the first set, 7-6 with a 7-4 finish in the tiebreaker. Zerbini seized momentum to walk away with a 6-2 win in the second set, giving Cal a 5-0 lead in the match. The Gaels got on the board next as Hamdy held Katsarov to five points in the super tiebreaker to win 7-6(3), 3-6, 1-0 on court five. Nick Andrews closed out the day with his 12-10 super-tiebreaker win against Gavin Leon on court three. The pair split the first two sets.

Next up, the Bears will participate in the first-annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend as they travel to one of 16 host sites. Cal will face Michigan on Jan. 31 on the campus of North Carolina in Raleigh, N.C. while the hosts play Virginia Commonwealth. The winners of each match will play each other on Sunday, Feb. 1 in one match and the losers will play in another. Please check for more information.
