Jan. 20, 2009

PULLMAN, Wash. - Meghan Berlingo has transferred to play soccer at Washington State University and will begin competition next fall, Cougar Head Coach Matt Potter announced, Tuesday.

A goalkeeper from Massapequa, N.Y., Berlingo played soccer her freshman and sophomore years at the University of Florida. With 29 career starts, she posted a goals-against-average of 0.48 and had 70 saves. While at Florida, she won 22 matches and lost only two with one tie.

'Anytime you can add a player of Meghan's caliber it can only help your team and program,' Potter said. 'Meghan is an accomplished performer on the biggest of stages, has great experience and a working knowledge of an elite program coming from Florida. Meghan did nothing but impress us with her personality and enthusiasm to be part of what we are continuing to develop here at Washington State. Meghan is an outstanding student which echoes the qualities of the players we have here. We are delighted Meghan has joined our team and soccer family and look forward to a great future together as we look to build on the performances of last fall with another NCAA tournament bid.'

In 2008, Berlingo started 14 matches and recorded a career-high six saves versus Georgia in the Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinal. She led the SEC goalkeepers with a goals-against-average of 0.69 for all matches and 0.29 in conference play. Berlingo was second among league goalkeepers with four solo SEC shutouts.

During Berlingo's freshman year in 2007, she started the last 14 matches of the season in goal. She made her first collegiate start at No. 10 Tennessee and played the entire match. Her first shutout came at Mississippi in her second collegiate start. She ended the season sharing eight shutouts with fellow goalkeeper Katie Fraine.
