GymDawgs Journal: Kristen Omori

Hi GymDawg Fans,
Two weekends ago, we traveled to Salt Lake City for our first away competition. It is always an exciting adventure, but I pleased to say that this year we started out with smooth traveling. Some of the traveling trips in the past have had some interesting adventures especially in the big 12-passenger vans. These traveling trips are a great place to get to know all your teammates, finding out who the morning people are and what rituals each one has before meets.
The atmosphere in the Utah arena was very welcoming. We compete in this giant bowl, with the crowd elevated on all sides and the fans were courteous and great. The meet did not go as well as we had hoped. We started out bars with a few mistakes, had a great vault rotation, but faltered on floor. I am proud of how our team fought on beam after struggling on floor.
This past week we have worked hard to improve our skills, working on details to gain tenths back on our score. Each person working on improving their own routines, especially on minute form deductions will help our overall team score. I could see the eagerness and desire to get better, not accepting the mediocrity.
Our goals for the meet this weekend are to hit all four events and to work on the details that we have been perfecting in the gym. See you Saturday at Bank of America for our next home meet.
