Baseball Selected To Finish Fourth In Pac-10 By League's Coaches

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Oregon State baseball team received two first-place votes by Pacific-10 Conference coaches and is projected to finish fourth in 2009, the league announced Wednesday.

Oregon State received 58 total points to be projected fourth. That figure is 11 points behind Arizona State, which received three first-place votes and 69 points overall to projected as the league's champion this year. The Sun Devils are ahead of No. 2 UCLA, which received 67 points, No. 3 Stanford (64 points) and then the Beavers.

Arizona is fifth with 56 points, followed by No. 6 California (42), seventh-ranked USC (38), No. 8 Washington State (24), No. 9 Washington (23) and No. 10 Oregon (9).

It is the second straight year the Beavers have been selected by the coaches to finish fourth. Last year, Oregon State received 44 points.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams and points were awarded by position. First-place votes gave teams nine points, while second-place votes earned them eight points, and so on.

The Beavers are in or near the top 25 in each of the major polls this season. Oregon State is ranked 25th by Baseball America and 24th by The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has OSU at No. 31, while Collegiate Baseball, the first poll to come out this season, puts the Beavers at No. 38 to open the season. The Sporting News, which does not have a weekly poll, placed Oregon State at No. 15 in its annual baseball yearbook.

Available now are a number of season tickets for the 2009 season. The season-ticket packages include 24 games at Goss Stadium and the three-game series against Missouri State go for $400 and can be obtained at the ticket office at legendary Gill Coliseum, by calling 1-800-GOBEAVS or by visiting Single-game tickets for the 2009 season will be made available to the public on Feb. 16.

Additionally, tickets to the 2009 Papé Grand Slam will go on sale on Feb. 11. The 2009 Slam will take place from March 13-15 and will feature Oregon State and perennial Midwest power Missouri State in a three-game series at PGE Park in Portland.

Single-game tickets for the Papé Grand Slam are $10 for adults and $5 for youths (ages 3-18), with each seat being general admission. Oregon State students who present their ID on game day can also get seats for $5. Those who have season tickets for the 2009 Oregon State baseball season will have a specific number of sections reserved for them on the Oregon State dugout side of PGE Park.

The 2009 season officially opens Feb. 20 when the Beavers start a three-game series against Tennessee in Knoxville.
